Would rather and have better exercises

What is the difference between them and what do they have in common?

Read explanation

Would rather and had better are often confused. They both are followed by the infinitive of the main verb without “to” (like modal verbs). Would rather means to prefer. We use it when there are a few alternative options and we want to choose one. For example: I would rather get a taxi (than wait for the bus). Had better is the synonym of “should” but a bit stronger. You had better follow the manual (or you’ll mess things up). The exercises on this page will help you get a feel for both “would rather” and “had better” and use them correctly.
