Read explanation

We use the past perfect continuous (past perfect progressive) to show that the activity started in the past, went on for some time and has recently or just stopped — in relation to the moment of speaking in the past or continued afterwards. We often use “how long”, “since” and “for” with the past perfect continuous. The exercises on this page will help you practise using the past perfect continuous in sentences. If you are only starting to learn this verb tense, we recommend studying its form first. You will find the links to the rules and exercises in the related topics block.
