The imperative
When we want to ask or direct somebody else, to express a command or request, we need a special grammatical mood — the imperative. It is very simple to make.
Go there!
To tell a person to do something we use the infinitive verb form.
Examples
Come in!
Pass me the salt, please.
Close the window, please. I'm cold.
Check your mailbox.
Don't go there!
We say don't + infinitive to make our command or request negative.
Examples
Don’t cry.
Don't talk to me that way!
Don't do this. It's wrong.
Don't be late, please.
Let us go there!
To suggest doing something together we use let us (let’s) + infinitive.
Examples
Let's go to the park.
Let's play this game.
Let's run!
Let us not go there!
To make negative sentences with "let us" we add "not" after it: let us (let's) + not + infinitive
Examples
Let's not disturb Phil.
Let's not wait for him.
Let's not shout at each other.
