"I wish" in the conditionals — reference

We say "I wish" plus a condition when we regret something. We can speak about either the present / the future, or the past.

Now or then	Tense in the part with the condition	Example
speaking about the present or the future	past simple	I wish I lived by the seaside.
speaking about the past	past perfect	I wish I hadn't eaten the whole cake.
